Feeding elderly pets

By Tzeitel Posted in About / No Comments »

As with humans, animals’ nutritional needs change according to age. As our pets get older we must be alert to change their diet to fit and meet those needs to help them stay healthy and give us many years of companionship.

The dogs are considered old depending on their race (and size) at different ages. The veterinarian can help you decide if it’s time to change their food. But generally, we see that the animal is less active, often fat because of reduced activity, and will start to get gray hair. That is the best time to change your diet to one that meets the new nutritional requirements.

In the market there are many brands of dog food you can buy. It should contain Vitamins C and E to strengthen their immune system; Phosphorus to have healthy kidneys, sodium for healthy heart and vital organs, and should be easy to digest. I should also have less calories and fat, since the animal is not growing or burning them running as before.

Therapeutic Dogs

By Ana Posted in About / No Comments »

Since the beginning of the time, humans and the dog they have enjoyed the benefits of a special link and emotional connection. However, it was not until the 19th century when humans began to think of the therapeutic benefits that could arise from interacting with one another.

The first man to create an institution dedicated to animal-human therapy was Willam Tuke, founder of the Centre for rehabilitation of York. His main goal was to provide innovative therapies based on the internal contact of interns with animals (such as chickens and rabbits) of which he was both responsible for. This was the first institution to create the groundwork in this field and provide examples of how animals can improve the quality of life of people living in nursing homes, hospitals or even prisons.

In these type of facilities, life and daily activities tend to be very controlled consequently affecting inmates and leading them to feel depressed and isolated. General contact with animals is a good remedy against these negative emotions and its benefits have been widely demonstrated. We invite you to consider animals as something more than man’s pet or best friend. They can be powerful creatures with the power to heal.

The Origin of the Dog

By Ana Posted in About / No Comments »

According to an American Indian legend, God created the world by placing four columns to hold the sky up and separating it from the earth. Then he went for a walk in the world and little by little created everything we find in it today. This legend specifies how men and women first appeared as well as well how he created the rivers and how each animal was created one by one, except the dog.

The story tells that God had a dog from the beginning, and they came to the Earth with him for the purpose of helping humans in hunting, herding, vigilance and other tasks.

Currently there are about forty species of canids.  All the breeds of domestic dogs belong to the species canis familiaris. The variety of existing breeds can be explained to the fact that each of the different animals come from various places and times. Each dog breed can be more different than the other depending on what part of world it comes from. They can be of all sizes, colors and temperaments. For example Chihuahuas can be small and nervious while Retrievers can be larger and playful. No matter how many dogs breeds exist, I am sure there is the perfect one for every dog lover.

Beagles

By Ana Posted in About / No Comments »

The Beagle is a breed of small, compact size, robust and extremely playful. Its drooping ears, variety of colors and the shape of the head undoubtedly give it a friendly appearance. Its expression is also typically sweet, friendly and loving. In fact, one of the most famous and charismatic dogs of all time, Snoppy belongs to this breed.

The skull of most Beagles is slightly cone shaped with a small occipital crest. Its nose, generally back in color, has wide nostrils, allow it to sniff out its surroundings. Its muzzle is neither pointy nor round and has a strong scissor-shaped jaw. Its medium-sized ears that hang fall glued to the sides of the head are rounded at the end. Its eyes are large, expressive, well separated and can be of dark chocolate or hazelnut color.

It also has a well balance square shaped body, short loin and deep chest. The tail, moderately long and thick is often in an upward position, straight, or flat (when full of fear), but never curled on its back. The fur of this breed is short, abundant and coarse.

The Beagle is a tender, cheerful, curious and sociable dog. In addition to being a very smart breed, it tends to be courageous and independent. They are also famous for getting along well with children and other dogs. With all its virtues and defects, it is a relatively easy-to-train dog. Many dogs belonging to this breed are trained to detect substances such as drugs, fruits and money in airports and as search or rescue dogs. Without a doubt, the Beagle is ideal both as a pet or a working dog.

How you can get your cat to the vet without stress

By Tzeitel Posted in About / No Comments »

It is well known how crucial it is to take care of the health of our pets and we should take them to the vet when we notice that something is wrong. I had a Persian cat that every time I took to the clinic, if only for the bathe, the hair done and removed nodes, started the meowing since it got into the cage and all the way to the vet, but returned completely silent, as it felt bad because I led it to do something that it did not like.
There are things we can do to avoid stress to the cat that I did not know in time, but I leave here embodied to help other cats. The first source of stress for the cat was that we put her in the cage, which told her what was coming next. To prevent panic, you should take the cage with much anticipation, playing with the cat around it, throwing something it you likes into the cage for it to take it and break out as part of the game, try to do several times, so that the cat accepts the cage naturally.
Another thing you can do is ask the vet if you can give a tranquilizer before going to the event, so the kitty can rest easy. While waiting for attention, maintain It inside the cage, talk to calm him further and if necessary, cover the cage with a towel or something so that it can’t see what happens around.
Once with the vet, take it out of the cage carefully, talk and pet him and then stand in a place where your cat can see you as the vet treat. In this way the kitten will be realizing that there is no reason for fear and will be easier to go to the vet.
