Against animal abandonment

By Tzeitel Posted in About / No Comments »

A major problem facing big cities, and smaller ones, is the large number of animals traveling on the roads with no apparent owner. Among these are stray animals (dogs and cats) and animals whose owners simply left in the street while they are away. How did we get to this serious situation?

The primary cause of abandonment of animals is the wrong decision when their owners decide to have a pet. A puppy or kittens are lovely animals that move us when we see them and take them home immediately. But we ignore the puppy and kittens grow and that grace they had will be transformed. They also overlook that puppies must be trained in the same way we educate our children to behave properly. We need to have adequate income because the animal must be maintained (food and health).

By not weighing these things is that eventually we grt tired of the pet because its no longer funny. If you do not have the capacity to train, the animal will not learn to behave and consequently begin to wreak havoc in the house and have inappropriate behavior. If we do not give adequate food and veterinary care they need, the animal will get sick and we do not want to have a sick animal at home that may be causing disease in the rest of the family. If it’s a female and has puppies, especially in the case of cats, instead of giving them away the owner rather put them in a bag and throw them somewhere far away, to perish.

For those who go through this situation, the best solution and the most comfortable, is to take the dog or cat into the street, other inhumane action we aim for the reasons below. First, a pet doesn’t knows how to provide their own food, is used to get it from its owner. On the other hand, derive from a loving and friendly environment to launch a totally hostile environment in which they must struggle for survival, for which they are unprepared.

The only way around this is to study well the pros and cons before adopting an animal. Be aware that you must educate them so that their behavior is right; you must feed it well and take to the vet to avoid getting sick. And above all you must consider your budget constraints to make sure you can afford owning a pet entails. Animals are living beings who feel and have special needs and within our values should be the respect to it.

Before deciding to take a pet into the street, try to find alternatives as give it to someone who wants it or take it to an animal shelter to find the pet home. Do not abandon him, he does not deserve it.

How you can find the ideal pet

By Tzeitel Posted in About / No Comments »

When choosing a pet, we often get carried away by the enthusiasm and choose the animal that best encouraged when we see, or that at that time seems the most beautiful, joyous, playful, affectionate or any other quality which attracts us. But that should not be the criteria for choosing a pet.

The first thing you must realize is if you like dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, hamsters, rabbits, or if you like all animals, which is your favorite. Once you have decided on an animal species, you should consider if you have all the facilities to fit the pet comfortably. An example is the dog: there are dogs of different sizes and personalities, with different requirements for care and attention. In regard to the size, a large dog needs more space than a small one; if you have young children need a dog that is friendly to children.

If you do not have enough space for a large dog, perhaps you should consider a small one and if you do not like small dogs, you might prefer to consider a smaller animal like a cat or a hamster or a bird. Here you should also consider if you live in an apartment or a house with garden, in which your pet can move freely.

The personality of the animal is a very important point in choosing a pet. There are dogs that are very tolerant of children, while others are aggressive with them. That same can be said of the parrots, which often are aggressive. There are some animals who are shy as hamsters and rabbits and require quiet spots to develop.

Your lifestyle is also very important, because on it depends the time you can devote to a pet. Continuing with the example of the dogs they need to exercise every day and take him out to make their needs. Instead of a cat that you just have to put a litter box, that he will religiously visit every day. The hamsters and birds only require you to put newspaper or other absorbent material in the bottom of his cage falling debris and clean it every day or frequently.

Study your environment, your character and the facilities with which you count and you will find your ideal pet.

The care of your pet will also help the environment

You might wonder what has one thing to do with the other, but read a little more and see the relationship. And is that among the care that you give your pet is providing a healthy environment in which it can develop properly. This includes the environment in your home and your neighborhood and emphasizes the animal wastes. If you have a dog that you take every day to make its needs, you should bring adequate bags for picking up your pet’s wastes. This is necessary to prevent contamination of the site, which brings diseases, not to mention the ugly of it. There are commercially prepared pet foods that help the animal’s feces have a consistency suitable for collection and facilitate the intestinal tract in dogs and cats. This helps the environmental hygiene.

There are other ways to help the environment related to the care of your pet and one is to acquire goods and medicines for her in recyclable packaging, for example, prefer those who come in bags or envelopes that those that come in cans or plastic bottles. The products for hygiene and health of your pet (shampoos, flea and tick treatments, for example) must be products that do not harm the environment. You must choose those more natural, with less harmful chemicals and should follow the instructions for use. Read labels carefully.

Bath time is also provided to protect the environment. Instead of bathing your pet with a hose, use a bucket of water to soap and one for rinsing. In cold season, bathe it less often and try to keep the hair clean and short to keep it cool and comfortable in hot weather. And of course, keep very clean the containers in which the pet eats and drinks, to maintain the overall health of your pet.

Reptiles as pets

By Tzeitel Posted in About / No Comments »

There are many people who want a pet but are reluctant to have something traditional like a dog, cat or hamster, or other mammal. They lean more towards an exotic animal and choose a reptile either a turtle, a snake or an iguana, to name a few. This has become increasingly common, but if you have one you should know that the care you should give is not the same as a mammal.

To begin with you should know that reptiles are cold blooded animals and need a heat source to maintain body temperature. To feed them you should know what they eat because some are vegetarians, others eat insects and still others, such as snakes, t eat smaller animals. While it appears that they are easier to maintain and require little space, the truth is that they need special facilities such as aquariums or terrariums.

The space you choose for them must have the elements that allow them to be in a place similar to their natural environment, which means branches, plants, rocks and water. You should get advice about their care and make sure they come from hatcheries, and that being classified as wild animals, you must be careful to safeguard the species. You must take special care in controlling the temperature of the terrarium in which you will place the animal, and the cleaning of the site to prevent disease.

If you need an aquarium, you should also take care of the details regarding the oxygenation of water, plants and places that will place the turtle to feel at home.

General information you should know about reptiles is that they are vertebrate animals that crawl with or without legs, some lay eggs and, as noted, are cold-blooded animals. Their skin is well reinforced to protect the animal and keep in mind that some may be poisonous and aggressive.

You must prepare for the reaction that can cause your pet in people to see, as these animals can be friendly and pleasant for some and cause fear or revulsion in others. And as always, remember that the welfare of your pet depends on you; it is entirely your responsibility.

By Tzeitel Posted in About / No Comments »

A lot of our attention is on these little mice white, red eye, which are very tender and some will want to pet them. Actually the white mouse is an albino variety of the common mouse or gray mouse. It has a short hair, smooth and silky, pure white and is known as a lab rat, because it is used in medical experimentation. However, also used as a pet or domestic animal and is very easy to maintain.

You can have these mice in pairs in cages with trays of interchangeable background that will facilitate cleaning. Since mice have very strong urine you will need to put in the tray porous material to absorb urine. It can be cork shavings, shredded paper, straw or other absorbent material. You can feed your mice with seeds, sunflower seeds, peanuts, bits of stale bread, hard cheese, whole grains and supplementing their diet with leaves of lettuce or dandelion. Place a water fountain in the cage so they always have fresh water. Use the so-called “baby bottle for rodents.”

Mice are very susceptible to parasites, bacteria, viruses and fungi, so please keep them locked in their cage to prevent contagion.

Although white mice are the most sought as pets, you can also opt for the common mouse gray or chocolate-stained mouse. Mice are highly entertaining pets and you can spend hours watching them play.
